If I Offended Anyone

Posted by Jared Barden on Apr 26, 2006 in Opinion, Personal

I love it when a celebrity, politician, sports star, etc. makes a fool out of themselves by saying something inappropriate, which then causes an uproar for a day or two. Then they come out with their “apology,” which many times sounds like anything but. It usually goes something like this, “IF I offended anyone, I apologize.” Does that mean if you didn’t offend anyone, you’re not apologizing? That doesn’t sound like much of an apology to me. Why not just own up to whatever you said or did, and just say, “I messed up. I’m sorry.”

Just an idea.

‘Bron ‘Bron

Today we were able to watch what, one day, might be looked back on as the amazing beginning to a playoff career for LeBron James. In just his third season he has led his team to the playoffs. Today he had a Triple Double – 32 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Not to shabby for a 21 year old in his first NBA playoff game ever. He’s the first person since Magic Johnson to have a Triple Double in his first playoff game.

I guess I jumped on the LeBron train right near the end of his high school career, so I didn’t get on the band wagon too late. It’s not like I know him or anything, so I can’t really comment on his character, but from what I’ve seen of him, he seems like an amazing player who is not nearly as selfish as some of the other stars in the NBA today.

Has their been a lot of hype around LeBron? Of course. The NBA, Nike and everyone else are dying to find “another Michael” that will make them billions of dollars. Is all of the hyped deserved? Obviously not. LeBron hasn’t won anything of great importance yet, but he may one day, and that is how he will be judged.

My wife, Danielle, is not a big fan of LeBron. She’s entitled to her opinion of course, but I disagree with her obviously.

I hope that LeBron has plenty of continued success throughout what will hopefully be a very long career. Go Cavs!

Not much to say?

I guess I haven’t had too much to blog about lately, but I thought I’d at least post something today. Things have been really busy latley. A few weeks ago my supervisor left the company, and the rest of us in the department have been filling in the gaps left by his departure. On a positive note, I received a raise, and we really feel like we’re in the right place at the time being.

PowerKidz stuff (the group Danielle and I lead at the church on Wednesday nights) is going really well. I can’t believe that it’s almost summer again and we’re getting ready for Mega Sports Camp (sports-themed VBS) again.

One of the most exciting new developments is the XBOX 360 that I finally bought a couple weeks ago. It’s pretty much amazing. Imagine a system that can connect to all the PCs in your house and share data with all of them, as well as play games in amazing detail. When I look at some of the new games I have compared to their XBOX versions, the changes are pretty spectacular. Sometimes it’s a lot of little changes that add up to a much more realistic version of the game. Danielle loves it too :) (Well, maybe she’s getting there…)

Last week I played my first round of golf for the year with Derek and Will. I didn’t do nearly as bad as I thought I would. I ended with 2 pars and a birdie, but I still managed to shoot a 108. I’d like be in the mid to low 90s by the end of the summer.

Guess that’s about it for now.
